Grade 2 made healing salve and lip balm with calendula flowers that they harvested from the flower garden, dried, and infused in olive oil for four weeks. After a visit to the beehive to see where wax comes from, we combined the calendula oil with beeswax and a little essential oil for aroma. The students poured the concoction so carefully into tiny containers, which they labeled with hand-drawn stickers.

Progress has been made at the spring, thanks to a group of volunteer parents that worked with LL_spring-BrendanBrendan removing concrete from the area. The next step is some electrical work which will happen this week. After that, Tom Myers will be leading a group of high school students in building a “wishing well” for project week. This structure will be a beautiful way to protect the irrigation pipes, while drawing upon the whimsical imagery of fairy tales.
