Grade 2 made healing salve and lip balm with calendula flowers that they harvested from the flower garden, dried, and infused in olive oil for four weeks. After a visit to the beehive to see where wax comes from, we combined the calendula oil with beeswax and a little essential oil for aroma. The students poured the concoction so carefully into tiny containers, which they labeled with hand-drawn stickers.
Progress has been made at the spring, thanks to a group of volunteer parents that worked with Brendan removing concrete from the area. The next step is some electrical work which will happen this week. After that, Tom Myers will be leading a group of high school students in building a “wishing well” for project week. This structure will be a beautiful way to protect the irrigation pipes, while drawing upon the whimsical imagery of fairy tales.
