Building Legacy: The Sunstone Circle

We have just celebrated the final events of the 2019-20 school year! Our seniors had the most unique commencement experience in our school’s history with a stage in the parking lot and drone videographer overhead. For our Walk-a-thon, students ran, skipped and walked all over the Portland area. And the Farewell Assembly was in video form, one that captured many memories of this unusual school year.

One such memory was our celebration of 100 years of Waldorf Education on the very first day of school. LivingLAB teacher Lisa Harrison guided us through a special ceremony, in which students, faculty and staff held sunstones in their hands and imbued them with wishes and blessings for the future. Sunstone, the Oregon state gem, is a symbol of the light we carry within. One by one, we all placed sunstones into a living terrarium, to carry our wishes forward.

Inspired by that ceremony, we worked to create the Sunstone Circle, in recognition of individuals who have made bequests or other planned gifts in support of our school. Together, Circle members share in the belief of a stable and healthy future for Portland Waldorf School. We offer our deepest gratitude for our inaugural Sunstone Circle members—Maya Muir (Outgoing Board Chair and Alumni Parent ‘08) and her mother Mary Cammann. Thank you, Maya and Mary, for your leadership in establishing this circle. You honor our entire school community with your loving legacy.

Looking forward to the next 100 years, Sunstone Circle members carry the light of love and best wishes forward in the form of a legacy gift that empowers Portland Waldorf School to serve the generations to come.
