Swarming Bees on Campus

Last week, bees from our rooftop hives swarmed for the third time. Don’t worry! This is a sign of a healthy hive. Listen to our beekeeper, Onyx, as she carefully collects the swarm to relocate them to Sauvie Island.

Onyx confirmed the queen was in the box by setting another branch with a smaller clump of bees near the opening. She could tell by the bee’s posture and movement that the queen was indeed inside the box. After a while, almost all of the bees entered the box to be with the queen!
